A fire last night destroyed a small business in the Gamaliel area, but fire fighters from three departments were able to keep the fire from spreading to the nearby residence.
Assistant Gamaliel-101 Fire Chief John Marks said fire destroyed the Expert Home Entertainment and Woodworking Shop located at 116 Baxter County Road 804. Marks said the first fire units arriving on the scene about 10 p.m. found the 40 by 40 two car garage and wood working shop with flames coming from the roof and back side. He said as a crew tried to enter the building the roof caved in forcing the crew back out. They were able to protect the house which was only about 10 feet from the garage.
The report indicated the fire started in the back corner of the garage, but the cause is listed as undetermined.
The 101-Gamaliel report did not list the owner of the building.
Assisting under a mutual aide agreement were fire fighters from Henderson and Northeast Lakeside.
