Firefighters work to extinguish a fire Tuesday in a trailer in northeastern Baxter County. An electric kerosene heater caused the fire, officials said.
Fire damaged a mobile home Tuesday in northeast Baxter County.

About 10:15 a.m., the fire was spotted by neighbors of Tim Fields, who rented the trailer in the 200 block of County Road 988. No one was home at the time of the fire.

The fire began in the living room and was caused by an electric kerosene heater, said Henry Porter, fire chief for the Northeast Lakeside volunteer fire department. Porter said the trailer was moderately damaged.

Barb Zaycheck and Ken Krengel, who live next door to Fields, called 911 after they saw smoke coming from the trailer.

"He said, 'Is their trailer on fire?'" Zaycheck said. "We saw smoke coming from underneath the roof."

The fire departments were on the scene for about one hour, Porter said.

Gamaliel and Henderson volunteer fire departments also assisted.
