Department History
Westside Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department began to service the community in late 1966. Originally the department was housed in a storage building where present day Clothes Wearhouse is located on US 64 West. On July 11, 1968 WestSide Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department was officially recogonized as a North Carolina Fire Department.
The department began with approximately fifteen volunteer members who repsonded to numerous emergency incidents occurring within Western Randolph County, NC. Today, the department is happy to provide fire suppression, emergency medical and rescue services to our jurisdiction of approximaltely 46.8 square miles. We have grown to a volunteer membership base of approximately 60 members, and operate out of two departmental stations.
The Westside Volunteer Fire & Rescue Departments responds to approximately 750 emergency incidents annually. In order to provide a more efficient service to the citizens, the construction of our third departmental station began in June of 2005 at 3668 Old NC Hwy 49 South, Asheboro NC 27205. This station will make it possible to provide a more time effective reponse to the emergency incidents that the Westside Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department is dispatched too.
