Former Epsom fire chief
HERNANDO, Fla. - Paul Edgar Lavoie, 68, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, after a long illness.
He grew up in Suncook and had formerly lived in Epsom prior to moving to Hernando, Fla., in 2005. He was a 1957 graduate of Bishop Bradley High School in Manchester.
He was employed by the New Hampshire Department of Safety for 34 years. Prior to his retirement, 25 of those years he served as state supervisor of driver education.
He joined the Epsom Fire Department in 1986 and served as chief for eight years.
He also served as fire warden for eight years.
He served in the Army National Guard and was called to active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Mr. Lavoie was a member of the American Legion Post 112 in Epsom. He was a avid motorcyclist and member of Gold Wing Road Riders.
He loved hunting and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Donna Moore Lavoie of Hernando, Fla.; two brothers, Maurice Lavoie of Pembroke and Pierre Lavoie of Dover; three children, Richard Lavoie of Goffstown, Daniel Lavoie of Warner and Michelle Bailey of Weare; three aunts, Veronique Desmarais of Suncook, Mabel Lavoie of Newmarket and Alice French of Concord; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, Barbara R. (Desmarais) Lavoie, in 2005; and father, Edgar J. Lavoie, in 1981.
Memorial services will be held Oct. 27 at 12:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Main Street, Allenstown.
